Evaluation

Reality Check Evaluation Year 12 Short Film For our 3 minute short movie, we decided to take inspiration from the horror genre and have a variety of shots showcasing the protagonist being followed by a hooded figure. Using eerie non-diegetic sound and a cool blue filter in the editing stage to add an isolated feeling to the film, I believe we have succeeded in creating a horror short film with all the elements necessary. Personally, I think that we used a variety of camera angles and met exactly what was required. The music was a powerful part of the creation as it adds the haunting atmosphere that was not entirely captured during the filming stages. However, the sounds and audio that we collected (From the movie ’10 Cloverfield Lane’) were a perfect fit to what we had filmed and helped the audience to realise it was a horror creation.  On the other hand, certain shots could have been cut even shorter as the final film ended up at around 3 and a half minutes long. So...

Cinematic Ideas

For our 3 minuet short film, we shall attempt to use many cinematic ideas to create a unique, original story.  For example, during editing, we will use a dark filter over the majority of the short movie, that will be used as a form of low key lighting, creating a typical haunted, abandoned atmosphere. (Using a horror convention to symbolise our genre) In addition to this, POV shots will fill short sections of the movie, as an original form of camera technique. These are commonly found in low budget horror/thriller films and will help to immerse the viewer further into the short movie.  Also, panning shots will help establish a clear setting for the film, while also drawing attention to key points or just helping set the scene to help the viewer feel the same emotions the protagonist may be feeling.  We will take advantage of this environment (Woods/Railway tracks/Abandoned structures) to include wipe cuts throughout the film past many trees. This can help reduce time betw...

Synopsis

Our 3 minute short film shows the impact that a sudden emu expected event causes for a certain character. During an everyday scene, the unnamed character begins to listen to music and relax in the opening scene, when he opens his eyes; the people and noises that surrounded him suddenly disappear. He believes he is completely alone. Constant thoughts fill his mind whether or not he is dreaming, as the world somehow seems wrong. The character attempts to run towards any sound that may be another human, as an act of salvation. However, this leads him to many different environments out of terror and curiosity. Further into the short film, worry slowly fills the protagonist as he feels like he is being followed by something. An eventful scene finishes the film when the character is trapped in an isolated location with this ‘something’ incredibly close. Many first-person scenes close the film from the characters phone camera POV to immerse the viewer further. After these events unfold, the f...
