Approaching The Unknown-Indie Film

Approaching The Unknown What Makes it independent: It has a budget of $1.3 million and contains a simple selection of special effects. It was produced by Vertical Entertainment with co production for Paramount Pictures. What is the production cost: The films budget was $1.3 million but the movie only brought in £10,232 in the box office. The major star and main actor in the movie is Mark Strong who has starred in other films such as Kingsman and Sherlock Holmes.  It hasn't won any awards after mixed reviews, with many saying it wasn't satisfying to watch through its 90 minute run-time. However, Mark Strong gives a powerful performance but the poor for the Indie film needs more depth and interest.

Evaluation

Reality Check Evaluation Year 12 Short Film For our 3 minute short movie, we decided to take inspiration from the horror genre and have a variety of shots showcasing the protagonist being followed by a hooded figure. Using eerie non-diegetic sound and a cool blue filter in the editing stage to add an isolated feeling to the film, I believe we have succeeded in creating a horror short film with all the elements necessary. Personally, I think that we used a variety of camera angles and met exactly what was required. The music was a powerful part of the creation as it adds the haunting atmosphere that was not entirely captured during the filming stages. However, the sounds and audio that we collected (From the movie ’10 Cloverfield Lane’) were a perfect fit to what we had filmed and helped the audience to realise it was a horror creation.  On the other hand, certain shots could have been cut even shorter as the final film ended up at around 3 and a half minutes long. Cinematic Ideas

For our 3 minuet short film, we shall attempt to use many cinematic ideas to create a unique, original story.  For example, during editing, we will use a dark filter over the majority of the short movie, that will be used as a form of low key lighting, creating a typical haunted, abandoned atmosphere. (Using a horror convention to symbolise our genre) In addition to this, POV shots will fill short sections of the movie, as an original form of camera technique. These are commonly found in low budget horror/thriller films and will help to immerse the viewer further into the short movie.  Also, panning shots will help establish a clear setting for the film, while also drawing attention to key points or just helping set the scene to help the viewer feel the same emotions the protagonist may be feeling.  We will take advantage of this environment (Woods/Railway tracks/Abandoned structures) to include wipe cuts throughout the film past many trees. This can help reduce time between scenes, an

Synopsis

Our 3 minute short film shows the impact that a sudden emu expected event causes for a certain character. During an everyday scene, the unnamed character begins to listen to music and relax in the opening scene, when he opens his eyes; the people and noises that surrounded him suddenly disappear. He believes he is completely alone. Constant thoughts fill his mind whether or not he is dreaming, as the world somehow seems wrong. The character attempts to run towards any sound that may be another human, as an act of salvation. However, this leads him to many different environments out of terror and curiosity. Further into the short film, worry slowly fills the protagonist as he feels like he is being followed by something. An eventful scene finishes the film when the character is trapped in an isolated location with this ‘something’ incredibly close. Many first-person scenes close the film from the characters phone camera POV to immerse the viewer further. After these events unfold, the f

Pans Labyrinth Essay

Pans Labyrinth-Analysis of Mise-en-scéne and cinematography Pans Labyrinth contains more secrets and symbolism than most people would see on a single view of the movie. Directed by Guillermo Del Toro, the unique film maker who is behind other epics such as Pacific Rim and HellBoy, this film tells its story of fantasy and reality through the eyes of ‘Ofelia’ in 1944 Spain. At this time, a vicious uprising is occurring by the Spanish people against the army, and the film often asks the question of which world is better, the bloody battlefield of reality or the fantasy world of monsters and magic. Specific themes can be seen throughout the 2006 masterpiece such as a circular motion to the entire motion picture. The film begins with the ending, and throughout, there are links to a circular motion such as the often use of keys in locks, or symbolism in the shape of certain scenes in the film such as the centre of the Labyrinth.  The two scenes that I am going to be analysing are Ofelia en

Trainspotting Essay

How does the aesthetic quality of ‘Trainspotting’ depict youth and drug addiction? Throughout the intense, emotional plot line of ‘Trainspotting’, many key elements from the 1996 Danny Boyle film show the true power of addiction and the impact of life choices. Shot from Renton’s (Ewan McGregor) point of view, with a voice over flowing through most of the film, the audience views the movie through the eyes of an addict who lives life in a complex spiral of love, hate, and heroine. The terrible conditions of most locations in the film truly portray the horrible atmosphere that surrounds the main characters, and just how little they care about it due to their addiction. Cinematography and the colour schemes used for the movie contain deep meaning toward how the film makers want to make the viewers feel, and how other aesthetics can convey an important meaning. In this analysis, I will examine two scenes from ‘Trainspotting’. (Renton’s Nightmare/Choose Life-End Scene) These two scenes stoo
