Evaluative Analysis Ethan Garvie My original intent for my project is to create a post apocalyptic thriller following the point of view of a young survivor, displaying his own personal thoughts in the wasteland. This will be achieved through a film rather than a screenplay as I believe I am able to work far better through moving image rather than writing a script and a storyboard. Active/Passive Spectatorship

How far does Inception and Blade Runner demonstrate a constant shift between passive and active spectatorship? Both Inception and Blade Runner were not created with the passive spectator in mind. These films throw twists and a large variety of information at the audience that some may not understand in one run through of the film. Because of these two different kinds of spectators, the films have an extremely diverse set of opinions. As an auteur, Christopher Nolan constantly bends time and uses a peculiar layout for storytelling. As some of his films do not pan out in the original ‘beginning, middle, end’ structure, ‘Inception’ follows this trend to a certain degree. The movie-epic spans across several different dream layers and tends to bounce back and forth. Cinematic Ideas

For our 3 minuet short film, we shall attempt to use many cinematic ideas to create a unique, original story.  For example, during editing, we will use a dark filter over the majority of the short movie, that will be used as a form of low key lighting, creating a typical haunted, abandoned atmosphere. (Using a horror convention to symbolise our genre) In addition to this, POV shots will fill short sections of the movie, as an original form of camera technique. These are commonly found in low budget horror/thriller films and will help to immerse the viewer further into the short movie.  Also, panning shots will help establish a clear setting for the film, while also drawing attention to key points or just helping set the scene to help the viewer feel the same emotions the protagonist may be feeling.  We will take advantage of this environment (Woods/Railway tracks/Abandoned structures) to include wipe cuts throughout the film past many trees.
